All three species of black bass roam these waters. Smallmouth bass catches in the 3-5 lbs range are common. Spotted bass grow to 4lbs plus here but common catches include 1 to 2 pounders. Largemouth in excess of 7 lbs are caught every year, usually in the early spring. Catches on largemouth are up, thanks to a 15 inch lake limit. After several years with this new size limit, it now takes an average of nearly 4 pounds to win most tournaments here !
Stripers are the big fish sought after by thousands here annually. Every year several in the upper 40's to near 50 pounds come to the scales. Beaver Lake has recieved much publicity over the years as a trophy striper lake. Around these parts it takes a striper of 30 pounds or so to even rate a mention on the dock !
Crappie? Beaver Lake, after several years of stocking is once again boasting huge stringers of slab sized crappie. Early spring finds these tasty fish up in a foot or less of water, and summer anglers catch big schools out in the open lake !
